Get Dirty!

If your childhood play time was anything like mine, then chances were you were covered head to toe in dirt by the end of the day. I emphasize toes, because I was always playing outside or in the woods barefoot and free. Partially because I just didn’t care back then and the other half was I usually was in a bathing suit (perks of growing up in Florida).

Thinking back, I can vividly remember the energy I had and the connection I felt to nature.

Or maybe you were nothing like me as a child, and regularly kept your shoes on while outside or grew up in the city. But did you ever made any trips to the beach? Were you barefooted then? If so, recall how you felt after that walk on the beach, or even just a few minutes after your feet met the sand. Do you remember a tingling in your feet or legs when you did these things? Did a sense of warmth or happiness rise up into your body?

Here’s the thing, it’s not too late to get back to that connection and back to a more free flowing way of being.

All you need to do is get grounded again! That’s right, I have used this term in previous posts I have written. That’s because this one thing could be life changing for you. All you have to do is start. What do you have to lose? It doesn’t cost a damn thing, and it’s always available to you (as long as you can find a patch of Earth).

Perhaps it’s a little odd to have a philosophy that describes what many of us did every day as kids but our current lifestyles have formed a barrier between our bodies and Earth’s surface. Maybe that is why kids have so much energy!?

“To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognized need of the human soul” -Simone Weil

Modern lifestyle has disconnected most people in so-called developed societies from the Earth’s surface energy. Most of us don’t walk barefoot nor do we sleep on the ground as our ancestors did.

By reconnecting to the ground, you can eliminate or relieve many common symptoms. People who incorporate this into their lifestyle again tend to sleep better and have more energy.  There are so many benefits to this practice but you do not have to just take my word for it.

Want to know how?

Go barefoot for thirty minutes outside and sit, stand, or walk on grass, sand, dirt. There is nothing else to do except for just notice what a difference that makes on your pain or stress levels.

If you do this or give it a try, I would love to hear about your experience in the comments section below.

With a Grateful Heart,
